🎀 Mint Momentum Ribbon

Five EMAs, one simple trend-health score.

A ribbon of five exponential moving averages looks great on a chart but can be hard to read at a glance. The Mint Momentum Ribbon compresses it into one 0-100 score by checking whether price sits above each average and whether the averages are stacked in bullish order. A full score means every piece of the ribbon agrees on an uptrend, while a score near zero means the whole ribbon is pointing down.

The exact formula

e1 = EMA(close, 8) e2 = EMA(close, 13) e3 = EMA(close, 21) e4 = EMA(close, 34) e5 = EMA(close, 55) above = (close > e1) + (close > e2) + (close > e3) + (close > e4) + (close > e5) stack = (e1 > e2) + (e2 > e3) + (e3 > e4) + (e4 > e5) raw = 100 * (above + stack) / 9 ribbon = EMA(raw, 3) OUTPUT ribbon // 0-100 score

How to read it

  • Above 80: price and all averages are aligned upward, a healthy uptrend.
  • Between 40 and 60: mixed signals, often a sideways or transitioning market.
  • Below 20: price and averages are aligned downward.
  • A fast drop from above 80 toward 50 can be an early warning that momentum is cooling.

Why it might help

It turns a cluttered ribbon of lines into one number that is easy to compare across assets and timeframes. Beginners can quickly see whether a trend is unified or fragmented.

Limitations

  • Built entirely from moving averages, so it lags sharp reversals.
  • Gives choppy readings in sideways markets.
  • The EMA lengths are arbitrary and have not been optimized.
