Bitcoin moved back above $86,000 early Monday and briefly touched $87,000, according to CoinDesk. The outlet described crypto markets as choppy at the start of the week.

According to U.Today, the crypto market started October on the back of a strong third quarter. Bitcoin rose about 7% in September, and Ethereum gained around 7% too. Solana did better than bitcoin, and several big altcoins also moved higher.

Bitcoin's share of the whole crypto market, known as dominance, slipped below 60%. That means other coins made up a bit more of the total than before.

Bitcoin finished September at roughly $83,000 to $84,000 after nearly reaching $87,000. U.Today said U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs took in about $2.4 billion in the week ending Sept. 25, their biggest weekly inflow since October 2025.

U.Today also said the market has not climbed steadily because bond yields have been rising and some investors have been cashing in profits. Both outlets point to Ethereum's upcoming Glamsterdam upgrade as something to watch.

Key facts

  • Bitcoin regained $86,000 early Monday and briefly touched $87,000, per CoinDesk.
  • Bitcoin and Ethereum each gained about 7% in September, per U.Today.
  • Bitcoin dominance slipped below 60%.
  • U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs drew about $2.4 billion in the week ending Sept. 25.
  • Ethereum's Glamsterdam upgrade is on the October watch list.

Why it matters

Crypto prices can rise and fall quickly, even in a month with solid gains. For everyday investors, the numbers show why it helps to look at longer stretches of time instead of a single day. Factors like fund flows and bond yields can also affect prices.

What happens next

Ethereum's Glamsterdam testnet is expected in October, and ETF flows and market liquidity are among the factors the outlets say to watch.

💡 Money lesson: Prices move up and down in the short term, so looking at longer time periods and managing risk gives a clearer picture than reacting to one day's move.
